Honorable Mention
Rolla Taylor - 'Blue Fields', 1928 [8K]
Rolla Taylor was truly a "Sunday painter," working as a court reporter in Bexar County for more than fifty years. The landscape work in the Davis Collection, Blue Fields, is an unusual work in the artist's genre in that it isn't the typical urban scene. The painting is in fact, one of the artist's greatest and most accomplished works. Taylor used the tones of his early palette, which was replaced in later years with brighter colors. The painting, unlike the other bluebonnet works in the collection, is rather somber and dark, which provides a different perspective of the Texas Hill Country landscape.-RC
