About the Class:
You will start with a collage lesson to get you started in thinking about the design for your batik piece as we explore how art expresses a part of you. This will help you understand how your creative choices are related to your unique life experiences. Batik is a method of decorating fabric using wax and dye. The process involves applying hot wax creating a single line design with closed areas on the fabric to keep color within the waxed areas. Once the desired colors are applied, the wax is removed, revealing the original fabric color in the areas where the wax was applied. This technique can be repeated multiple times to create various colors. All supplies are included and you will go home with an inspired piece roughly 16”x16” that can be made into a pillowcase, a flag, or incorporated into an art piece. Presented by Lisa Brown (art-as-therapy.com) Lisa Brown, based in San Antonio, TX, is the creator of “Art-as-Therapy” programs, inspired by her own healing journey during a five-year battle with Lyme disease.
