Art is a Stone’s Throw Away is a thoughtful and welcoming addition to the entrance of the San Antonio Art League and Museum. Along one side of the fence line, fourteen artist-made stones create a pathway of invitation—small in scale but rich in meaning. Each piece reflects the hand, vision, and creative spirit of a SAAL+M artist, coming together to form a lasting tribute to the vibrant community that surrounds this Museum.
This project grew from a shared desire to make the entrance more visible and engaging, offering visitors a moment of curiosity and delight even before they step through the gate. It stands as both a landmark and a quiet celebration of the artists whose work sustains and enriches the Museum’s mission.
Our deepest thanks go to Ilna Colemere and her committee, whose dedication and care brought this project to life. Their thoughtful leadership, along with the generosity of participating artists, has turned a simple idea into something enduring and beautiful.
Art is a Stone’s Throw Away is a reminder that art doesn’t just live inside gallery walls—it greets us at the threshold.
