About Us

Our Mission

The San Antonio Art League + Museum exists to make art accessible to everyone. We present exhibitions, support working artists, and build community around the visual arts — all free to the public, just as we have been since our founding in 1912.

Our History

Founded in 1912 by a group of San Antonio artists and art enthusiasts, the San Antonio Art League is one of the oldest continuously operating art organizations in Texas. For more than a century, we have served as a gathering place for artists, collectors, and anyone who believes that art belongs to the whole community.

Our annual juried exhibition — now in its 96th year — has launched countless careers and helped define what Texas art looks like at its best.

Our Building

The Museum occupies a gracious historic structure in San Antonio's King William Historic District, one of the city's most architecturally distinguished neighborhoods. The building has been home to the Art League since the mid-twentieth century and is as much a part of the experience as the art inside it.

Membership

SAAL+M is entirely volunteer-run, and membership is what keeps us going. Whether you're an art lover, a working artist, or simply someone who believes a community art museum should remain free and accessible, there's a place for you here. Memberships start at less than the cost of a bag of groceries.

Exhibitions, Workshops, and Events

Each year the museum presents a recurring calendar of events that the San Antonio community has come to count on — including the Annual Juried Exhibition, the Ethel T. Drought Founders Award ceremony, the Artist of the Year recognition, and a full schedule of workshops, receptions, and exhibition openings throughout the year.
