Excavation: A Mini Class in Pigmented Wax Saturday, June 24, 2023 Taught by Michelle Belto Semmes Studio, San Antonio Art League Limit 8 Students $85 Tuition SAALM Members $95 Tuition Non-Members All Basic Materials Provided In this all-level class, Michelle Belto shares the techniques she uses to create a variety of richly textured surfaces with encaustic paint. She will demonstrate building layers of pigmented wax and then working with subtractive techniques such as scratching, scraping and incising to bring up underlying colors, often with surprising results. This class lends itself to personal experimentation. For those new to encaustics this class will introduce the basic techniques of layering and fusing, mark making and working with texture. Participants can expect to take home a small, completed painting. About the Teacher: Michelle Belto Is an internationally known encaustic instructor. She has taught all-level encaustic workshops as a Tier teacher for R&F Paints, developed the program for encaustic at Southwest School of Art in San Antonio (now University of Texas) and authored a book, Wax and Paper Workshop (Northlight Press, 2012) on the subject.
