Gel Plate Printing and Creative Collage Techniques in Mixed Media Art Journaling

Back by popular demand, Melissa Grace Young will lead a 10 hour workshop introducing gel plate printing and creative collage techniques into your art practice. The first day we'll create papers with gel plate printing by layering acrylic paints, and also work on some images printed directly onto your journal pages. Warning, gel plate printing can be addictive and cause wild levels of excitement! The second day will be super fun, focused on incorporating your new art papers into images for your journal using collage techniques. We’ll play with a spontaneous approach to the blank page with spray stains to create interesting backgrounds. Then we begin adding your collage elements, mark-making, & creative lettering to finish several pages. Lots of hands-on experience with different mediums- markers, pencils, & inks- allow you to discover your favorite ones. Having others working around us in artistic pursuit allows us to feed off their enthusiasm. "Time spent in artistic communion" is how Zet Baer, a previous participant phrased it. We are able to witness how others approach a page, to see their processes. This art journaling workshop will introduce you to new tools to incorporate into your art, stimulate your creative flow, and hopefully inspire a regular journaling practice. Suitable for the beginner as well as experienced creators. $175 plus $10 supply fee for members $195 plus $10 supply fee for nonmembers 10 student limit Supplies to bring: one journal with WATERCOLOR PAGES, approximately 5.5" x 8.5" or 5" x 7" (instructor will have some extra journals available for $10 each) a pair of scissors |
