ABOUT THIS YEAR’S HONOREES
Zelime and John Matthews have been collecting, making, and exploring art for the last 50 years. Their first piece was a Mary Bonner, a wedding gift from Zelime’s cousin, Walter Mathis. Since then, they have added 11 more Bonners to their collection as well as many other local artists and non-native artists. Works include those by Louise Wuests, Janet Shook, Philip Evett, Peggy Calvert, Clay McGaughy, Betsy Dudley, Ansen Seale, Marcia King, Henri Matisse, Caroline Korbell, Michael Frary, Marc Chagall, Randol Davey, Frida Kahlo, Reginald Rowe, Reginald Marsh, John Neito, John James Audubon, Juan Miro, Robert Motherwell, Robert Onderdonk, and, of course, Terry Gay Gallagher. Zelime has also created an eclectic body of her own work on fabric, ceramic tile, paper, canvas, windows and walls often featuring Southwester animals, flora, and fauna.
