Collaborative artists Andre and Virginia Bally are curating a statewide showcase of fine art in three dimensions called Texas Dimensional. This invitational exhibition is sponsored by the San Antonio Art League and Museum (SAALM). Inspired by the huge success of Art in 3 Dimensions, which the Ballys’ curated in 2015 for Centro Cultural Azatlan, the exhibition will feature Texas artists in various 3D media including clay, glass, wood, fiber, and metal. The exhibit will run from January 3rd through February 17th, 2023, at SAALM.
The Ballys, in collaboration with SAALM, will create a curator’s catalog featuring each artist’s biography and artist statement with images of their work. Among the 37 featured artists are Danville Chadbourne (San Antonio), Roy Hanscom, Sherry Tseng Hill, and Joe Haden (Houston), and Lilly Lerner (Kerrville).
Andre Bally founded BALLY STUDIOS, with his wife Virginia in 1994 and has been greatly influenced by the cultures and design motifs of the traditional Japanese Potters, that of the North American Indian Potters and various other Aboriginal Art Cultures. Along with a diverse Art and Design background, these influences are reflected in the design and finishes of Virginia's and Andre's work. Andre Bally has been experimenting with ceramics, glass, and metal for over forty years. The Ballys have curated numerous shows together and have pieces on exhibit in private collections in Canada, Europe, and the United States.
The San Antonio Art League and Museum (SAALM) is a venerable building in the heart of the King William Historic District. Built in 1896, this intimate house-turned-museum and gallery now houses over 600 works in its permanent collection, which focuses on Texas artists. Works in all media - including paintings, drawings, prints and photographs, ceramics, and sculpture - are available for public viewing. Revolving contemporary exhibits highlight both local and regional artists and represent the unique work of diverse Texas talent.
Texas Dimensional will be on display at SAALM January 3rd through February 17th with an artist’s reception on Sunday, January 8th from 3 – 5 p.m.
The museum is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 am – 3 pm and admission is free.
