Engaging with Encaustic: A Jurors’ Conversation and Preview of Wax and Wildflowers at the San Antonio Art League & Museum
Encaustic painting by Carol Lelivelt for Wax and Wildflowers
The Wax and Wildflower exhibition will open to the public the following day, Sunday, June 11, from 3-5. |
Join us at the historic San Antonio Art League & Museum on Saturday evening, June 10, from 5:30-7:30 to learn more about encaustic as an art medium and how the Wax and Wildflower exhibition relates to the history of the Art League. This exhibition, a collaboration between SAALM and IEA (International Encaustic Artists), represents interpretations of wildflowers from 36 nationally known encaustic artists. Jurors William and Linda Reaves will speak about the work itself and the connection that the wildflower theme has to the Art League and the hugely significant Davis Wildflower Competitions of the 1920’s. Members of the Board of IEA will be on hand to discuss the art of encaustics, including the process and popularity of the medium. $15 SAALM Members $20 Non-Members Wine and Appetizers 5:30-6:15 Exhibition preview 6:15-7:00 Jurors’ talk and Encaustic artists’ remarks 7:00-7:30 Informal visits with artists and guests AND . . . .A Special Encaustic Demonstration will take place during the event in the Semmes Studio! |
