Discover the magic of transforming humble fibers into beautiful handmade paper with master papermaker Jo Etta Jupe. In this hands-on workshop, you’ll learn how to prepare your own paper pulp, pull and couch sheets, press them, and create richly textured papers that are truly one of a kind.
Jo Etta will also introduce creative ways to embellish and personalize your papers using pulp paint, collage, stencils, and layered fibers. Participants will work with papermaking materials and tools including pellons, felts, paper carriers, molds, and a press. No previous papermaking experience is necessary.
Instructor will provide:
Materials for making pulp, pulling sheets, collage, pulp paint, stencils, pelons, felts, paper carrier, press
Students should bring:
Vinyl or plastic apron
Collage materials they may want to use (optional)

Jo Etta Jupe
Jo Etta Jupe has been making paper by hand for more than 40 years and teaching the art of papermaking for over three decades. Her extensive experience includes traditional sheet formation as well as creative approaches incorporating pulp painting, collage, stencils, texture, and layered fibers.
Jo Etta currently teaches traveling workshops and classes through UTSA Southwest’s Community Art Program, sharing her deep knowledge of the craft with students of all experience levels. Her welcoming, hands-on approach encourages participants to understand the fundamentals of papermaking while discovering the expressive possibilities of working with pulp and handmade paper.
